Post Game: Mets Get Aced, Lose 3-1 To The San Fran Giants

Game Notes

Tim Lincecum was the Ace the Mets only hear about as they usually have his number. However, tonight he limited the Mets to one run on four hits  as the Mets lost to San Francisco, 3-1, on Saturday night. Capuano showed a strong showing as well on the Mets side. Six innings with only four hits as well but allowed two to score. He also added in four walks and five Ks. The infield defense was not helping him during a 25 pitch first inning. Duda couldn’t get the scoop at first, Tejada missed the tag on Shierholtz and then couldn’t get the desperate throw to first.

Bobby Parnell surrendered a run in the seventh, and Byrdak pitched a hitless eighth inning.

The Mets’ lone run came on back-to-back two-out doubles by Carlos Beltran and Daniel Murphy in the first inning.

Not much else happened for the Mets offense tonight as they were full of strikeouts (9) and a few walks (5).

Mets were 1-4 with RISP and left eight on base.

Two side notes: Yes Jeter got his 3000 hit and it was a HR ohhhhh. Whatever. But how about Josh Hamilton after hearing about the awful news about Shannon Stone, hit a walk-off two run homerun tonight.

Beltran and Murphy, who will now have to carry the team with Wright, Reyes and Ike out.

Up Next

The Mets conclude the first half and a West Coast trip as Mike Pelfrey (5-7, 4.64 ERA) opposes All-Star Matt Cain (7-5, 3.22).

  • In case you havent noticed, Beltran has been carrying this team all season long, and Wright never has. you also failed to mention that all three Giants runs came as a result of three different botched double plays by Turner and Tejada – THREE!

  • Capuano has been a hard luck loser at least a half dozen times this season. He pitched well enough to win last night and his defense let him down.

  • We all know the Mets are facing a calvacade of Cy Young worthy or winning pitchers and losing to Lincecum is nothing to be down about. I’m certain our gut will boune back from last night’s loss the way they have been ever since the calendar turned to May. The important thing to remember is if we take this rubber game, we would have taken series from the Tigers, Rangers and Giants all on the road and ALL first place teams. Something to keep in mind as we head into the All Star break.
