Why Nimmo And Not A Pitcher?

The New York Mets need pitching, pitching and more pitching. That’s why it’s quite strange that the team selected high school outfielder Brandon Nimmo with the No. 13 overall pick in this year’s MLB Draft. I can echo Robert Knapel’s sentiments on the subject that this pick is odd. First off, Nimmo, who is the highest drafted player ever from Wyoming, never even played high school baseball since the state does not have a high [...]

Mets Farm Report: June 6th, 2011

Buffalo Bisons 3 | Gwinnett Braves 4 I did not get to watch as much as this game as I would have liked because I was focusing on the draft, but I hope to take a closer look at it tomorrow. From what I did see, I liked the way Chris Schwiden was throwing tonight. He was back on normal rest after going 10 days in between starts and the results were much better. He [...]

Lenny Dykstra Jailed For Auto Theft, Drug Possession

I hate posting this kind of news, but former Mets outfielder Lenny Dykstra, makes it too difficult to ignore his antics and frequent skirmishes with the law. According to the Daily News, Dykstra was tossed in jail Monday after being charged with stealing three cars and possessing drugs. He was charged with 25 criminal counts, and was not able to post his $500,000 bail. As he was led away in handcuffs, Dyktra just smirked and called the chargesa [...]

Fulmer, 18, went 10-2 with a 0.72 ERA and 127 strikeouts in 68.0 innings for Deer Creek High School, located in Edmond, OK. The righthander also appeared at first base and third base during his career with the Antlers, hitting .436 with six home runs [...]

Lucas Duda Is Raking In Buffalo, Why Not Flushing?

A few minutes ago, I caught a tweet from the Buffalo Bisons that read: Lucas Duda has vaulted his average 46 pts the past 10 games. It sounded pretty impressive so I thought I’d investigate further. The hulking 6-4 outfielder is mashing the ball for the Bisons and in just 115 at-bats, Duda has slugged eight home runs and driven in 19 runs while scoring 18 of them. If you were to prorate that over [...]

New York Mets Select Brandon Nimmo with Their First Pick in the 2011 MLB Draft

Sandy Alderson has made his first pick as general manager of the New York Mets. With the 13th overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft, the Mets have selected Brandon Nimmo, and outfielder from Wyoming. Nimmo did not play high school baseball because there is no high school baseball league in Wyoming. He only played American Legion ball. This pick is certainly a reach as Nimmo was ranked as the 35th best player available in [...]

MMO Final 2011 Mets Draft Probables

Tonight’s the night Mets fans. Here is the final update to my running list of potential Mets draft selections. To finish things off I added RHP Matt Barnes of UConn who is really moving up the draft board in the last 24 hours. In about 30 minutes, we will find out who the Mets will select with the 13th overall pick in the 2011 First Year Player Draft. I’m betting it’s one of the players listed below. Good Luck to the [...]
