Buffalo Bisons (OFF)

Binghamton Mets | 3 Richmond Flying Squirrels 5

Brandon Moore had issues with his control today and suffered as a result. Most of the walks he allowed came in the 1st inning, but he wasn’t commanding the ball particularly well even after that. After letting two runs score in the 1st inning on just one hit, due to three walks and a wild pitch, Moore pitched well in the 2nd and 3rd, but that was it. He lucked out in the 4th inning with a double play on a sac bunt attempt to get him out of a jam and then gave up a homer in the 5th before his night was done.

The offense wasn’t able to do much of anything until they got into the bullpen. In the 6th Reese Havens beat out a double play, Josh Satin walked to move him up to second, and then Allan Dykstra picked up yet another two-out hit to score Havens. The bullpen walked two men in the 7th and then let two runs score on a wild pitch and balk.

Stars of the Game: 1. Allan Dykstra (1-for-3, 2B, RBI, BB, K) (30pts) 2. Jordany Valdespin (1-for-3, 2 BB, E) (27pts) 3. Raul Reyes (2-for-4) (6pts)

St. Lucie Mets vs. Palm Beach Cardinals (Postponed)

As expected, following the Savannah Sand Gnats half season championship there were some promotions from Savannah. Shortstop Robbie Shields and closer Josh Edgin both got the call as deserved. The shocking part was that Cory Vaughn and Chase Huchingson did not.

Savannah Sand Gnats 6 | Rome Braves 5

Greg Peavey pitched very well tonight as it was his defense that hurt him. They committed three errors behind him, the scoring judge could have easily given them more, and all four runs could have been unearned instead of just two of them. Once Peavey found his command after the 1st inning he was dealing and cruised until his defense hurt him in the 5th inning. P.S. Once again Peavey walked no batters (although he did hit one). Hamilton Bennett got the first chance to replace Josh Edgin and pitched a flawless inning with two strikeouts.

Wilfredo Tovar was right in the middle of all the action for the offense. He scored the Sand Gnats first run on an Aderlin Rodriguez single and then drove in Alonzo Harris with a triple in the 6th inning to tie the game. After Adam Kolarek “shockingly” gave the Braves back the lead, the Gnats had to rally back in the bottom half of the 8th. Even with Luis Nieves getting thrown out at home for the second out of the inning and no runs yet on the board, it was Tovar who struck again with a double to score a run, moved to second on a wild pitch, and then scored the winning run on a passed ball.

Stars of the Game: 1. Wilfredo Tovar (3-for-5, 2B, 3B, 2 R, 2 RBI) (14pts) 2. Blake Forsythe (2-for-4, R, BB, K) (20pts) 3. Albert Cordero (1-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI) (11pts)
