Beltran Scratched, Is He Worse Than The Mets Are Letting On?
UPDATE: Carlos Beltran was scratched from simulated game according to Adam Rubin. Original Post: I’m a little worried to say the least about what the facts are regarding the health of Carlos Beltran’s knee. I’m starting to wonder if we are being told the whole story or only parts of it, the “good soreness” parts. To be honest, I’m starting to feel a lot like I did when Omar was running things, and that can’t [...]

Keeping K-Rod’s Option From Vesting
Brian Costa, who now writes for the Wall Street Journal, posted an outstanding article in which he suggests a creative solution to preventing Francisco Rodriguez’s 2012 vesting option worth $17.5 million dollars from being triggered. As it stands now, the option is triggered if K-Rod “finishes” 55 games this season. Actually, the solution came in part from K-Rod himself who said this when talking about how he wants to be used out of the bullpen: “Not even [...]

My Obligatory Opening Day Roster Projection
Seems like everyone from beat writers to bloggers are taking a stab at projecting the 2011 Opening Day roster, so here is my obligatory post. Only 24 days from Opening Day, but things are starting too look less murkier and some players are beginning to solidify their chances of sticking. The Starting Lineup 1B Ike Davis – Great defense, good power, iffy on-base skills, hey nobody’s perfect. I like Ike. 2B Dan Murphy - I’ve picked Murphy all [...]

Daniel Murphy – The Functional Second Baseman
The battle for second base rages on, but the real battle for the second base competition has been based in assumptions with unproven characters (Turner, Murphy, Emaus) and a character that every Mets fan wishes won’t prove himself (Luis Castillo). Though its only spring training, I am putting my backing into camp Murphy. Here are four reasons why I think he will make the team as the starting 2B. 1. Murphy has MLB Experience Even [...]

Collins Decides That Beltran Will Not DH Today Against Tigers
It may seem like we follow the Carlos Beltran situation very closely on MMO, but that’s only because our success in 2011 is tied to his health and critical to him having a productive season. That said, here’s the latest… Although he was expected to play in this afternoon’s game against the Detroit Tigers, Terry Collins decided to give Carlos Beltran the day off after consulting with him this morning. Beltran told Collins that he was “sore, [...]

Mets Notes: K-Rod Throwing Heat, Beltran’s Slide Show, Bay Confronts Wall, Don’t Forget Tejada
Carlos Beltran put a scare into Terry Collins when he was waved around third base and scored on a Daniel Murphy single in the second inning of Sunday’s game at Digital Domain Park. He laughed about it afterward and confronted third base coach Chip Hale about it in the dugout. “I can’t tell you what was going through my mind when I saw Carlos being waved around. As a matter of fact, I asked Chip, ‘What the hell, to score [...]

Time to Petition the Wilpons to Sell
This is going to be a very simple post. A link to an online petition, which makes a very good case as to why all fans–and tax payers–should demand that the Wilpons sell ALL their ownership of the team immediately. Enough is enough! http://www.gopetition.com/petition/43119.html

Beltran Goes 1-3 In Debut, Slides Home To Score Run
Carlos Beltran went 1 for 3 in his spring debut against the Red Sox today and scored a run – sliding into home plate for added effect though he clearly looked rusty running. He admitted being at 80% running the bases after the game, but said he felt great swinging the bat. It was a good first step for Beltran. He is expected to play again on Monday and will be playing right field in about 6-8 [...]

Ram’s Rambles: Jose Reyes And OBP
See those men pictured above? Jose Reyes and David Wright. Not too far back in the past, Reyes was “The most exciting player in baseball” and Wright was “The Prince of NY.” They are cornerstones of this organization and I hope I still respect them both as much as I did two or three years ago. Wright has fallen victim to a concussion, some struggles with runners on (.261 with runners on, .260 with RISP, [...]

Culture Change At Citi Field
I know what you’re going to say, “you’re alive!” It’s been quite a while since my last post here. As some may or may not know, my life changed dramatically right before the New Year with the birth of our daughter. So pair that with the fact this is the busiest time of year for me, and you’ve got your reason as to why I haven’t posted. There’s been so much going on, and I’m [...]
