I know many of you don’t put stock into spring stats, so you could just move onto the next post if you are one of those. But for those of you who are interested, here are some interesting notes from the Mets.
The New York Mets pitching staff has constructed a 3.86 ERA so far this spring, allowing 94 earned runs in 219.0 innings. That mark is currently the fourth-best this spring among all National League teams.
Here is some more good news on offense. At the plate, the Mets have drawn 78 walks this spring, tied for the third-most among NL squads.
Hopefully, both of those trends continue into the season.
As far as individual players go, Angel Pagan is tied for fifth among National League players with 12 runs scored this spring and is batting .289 with a .325 on-base percentage in 14 spring games. As a top of the order hitter, it’s imperative for Pagan to concentrate on that OBP or he will get some competition from Josh Thole who I feel will eventually be the Mets #2 hitter in the years to come.
Thole is currently batting .405 in 37 at-bats this spring with an amazing .436 OBP and has only struck out three times.
Chris Young, who pitched 6.0 shutout innings yesterday is second among all NL pitchers with a 1.33 ERA. Young also
ranks second among NL pitchers with 20.1 innings.
Taylor Buchholz, Frankie Rodriguez and Tim Byrdak have combined to toss 24.2 scoreless innings so far in Grapefruit League play.
