Bobby Parnell Out For Season With Inflamed Elbow

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York is confirming that right-hander Bobby Parnell is being shut down for the remaining 12 games of the season with inflammation of the plica in his right elbow, according to the team. After Parnell was declared unavailable for use Sunday by Jerry Manuel, the reliever told ESPNNewYork.com he believed the issue was triceps related. From Left Field: Who’s On Second?

According to Abbott and Costello, “Who’s on first, What’s on second, and I Don’t Know’s on third.” However, for the 2011 New York Mets, the question will be the following: who (not what) is on second? Let’s be honest. Even before his recent injury, Met fans were not getting excited about the prospects of having Luis Hernandez man second base for us next year. If you look right now at the Mets’ 2011 roster, the [...]

More On Jeff Wilpon…

This morning, our own Joe Spector wrote a great piece based on information from an article by Joel Sherman on how Jeff Wilpon has become a sort of stumbling block in the front office. This afternoon, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, corroborates much of what was said in the Sherman piece and writes, If ever a team needed a GM with vision, it’s this one. Ownership needs to make the right choice to replace Omar Minaya, and then [...]

Morning Grind: Santana, Poison Pen, Torre/Backman, End Of An Era

Good Morning, Met Nation. It was a given that the team needed to make changes towards the future to go from underachiever to perennial contenders to a World Series every year. But now we are seeing the worst case scenarios become reality right before our eyes…. Ace In Your Face Johan Santana, more than any single person on the team, was our constant. When the hitters would disappear and the defense would flounder in spots, we knew [...]

Hello I’m Jeff Wilpon And I’m A Habitual Meddler

“They have a problem they don’t understand: This is not a desirable location. New York is desirable, but this is the wrong borough. I don’t think it has sunk in with Jeff yet that he is running a team that the best people might not want to work for.”  ~  An NL Executive I think Joel Sherman’s article in Sunday’s New York Post pretty much sums up why the next few months for the Mets [...]

The Mets get swept by the Braves as they lose 6-3. Dickey got tagged for six runs and ten hits in six innings. The bullpen didn’t help much either as they gave up two runs. The offense didn’t do much either, other than David Wright’s 24th homerun of the season. Game Summary R.A. Dickey got blasted today in the final game of the Braves series. He got beat up for four runs on ten hits [...]

Mets Getting Slammed Left And Right

Derrek Lee blasted a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning off reliever Manny Acosta that helped the Braves beat the Mets 6-3 on Sunday to complete the three-game sweep. Lee’s grand slam was the 12th one the Mets have allowed this season. ESPN’s Mark Simon reports no team has ever finished a season allowing 12 or more grand slams and hitting none. After failing to hit a grand slam through the first 150 games of this season, [...]

With Santana Situation Becoming More Dire, Mets Should Target Zach Grienke

As if things couldn’t get worse regarding Johan Santana, it has now been reported that when Santana had his surgery last week, it was not arthroscopic surgery as many had thought. It was a traditional surgery with a full incision to open up the shoulder and repair the anterior capsule tear. According to David Waldstein of the New York Times, Because of the nature of Johan Santana’s shoulder injury and the operation to repair it, the [...]
