Hey Mets Fans, Here’s A Sight For Sore Eyes

Check out this beautiful photograph of Johan Santana by Adam Rubin of the Daly News. (via The Ropolitans

Despite all the ups and downs, and ranting and raving of this never-ending off season, you look at a photo like that and everything else almost seems to melt away.

Santana after his pitching session, “This is big for me. I feel very happy I’m very excited about this season.”

Adam reports that Santana threw 24 pitches and was very pleased with his session. He was able to extend fully with his left elbow. Santana underwent arthroscopic elbow surgery in September, but yesterday he vowed that he will take the mound on Opening Day.

Ken Davidoff tweets that Johan Santana didn’t throw very hard, but looked fine physically. Santana said that the plan calls for him to start pitching in exhibition games in the second week of March.

We can talk all we want about getting another starter or catcher or first baseman, but none of it means anything without a healthy Johan Santana. Today’s news definitely makes us all breathe a little easier. LGM

Went to my first Mets game, a Mayors Trophy game at Shea, in '73. We beat the Yankees 8-4 and I was hooked. I marched in two Banner Day parades, and before the Grand Slam single, there was the "Hendu Can Do" grand slam - I was there. I've collected Mets memorabilia all my life and started Mets Merized Online to feed my addiction.

  • This is huge! Knowing how the Mets messed up almost every player injury, I ve been worried about Santana all winter. This is a great sign and hopefully it will lead to some great results this season.

  • That’s very nice to see. Expect another dominating season from Johan!

  • Dont mess with the Johan!!! Thanks so much for posting this!

  • Johan had a good interview with Joe and Evan this morning which you can listen to here.

  • Wow. And his arm didn’t completely detach from his body!

But you’re right. This team isn’t doing anything without a healthy Santana.

  • Gorgeous shot! Spring fever man!

  • Yes its a good sign. But remember he only pitches every 4th day. Pelfry, Maine, Niese(?) and (god help us) Perez have to come through.

  • Even in a terrible season like last, watching Santana every 5th day brought me joy. Win or (more likely lose) watching him pitch is one of the reasons I love baseball.

  • Let’s hope all is well in Santana-land. He gives us a tiny claim to greatness. Let’s make the most of it. And please Mets, let him schedule his own recovery rate without interference from some dimwits on your staff, least of all Warthen.

  • [...] Johan Santana – Not much to break down here, as he is the only real credible guy in the rotation.  We all know what the man is capable of.  The only negative here is off-season left elbow surgery on 9/1/09, in which he had multiple bone fragments removed.  A report on the success of his first workout can be seen here posted by Joe D.
