According to Adam Rubin,
The Mets placed center fielder Carlos Beltran on the 15-day disabled list today with a bone bruise on his right knee.
The team called up Fernando Martinez from Class AAA Buffalo today, though he wasn’t expected to be there in time for tonight’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Martinez had been sent down to Buffalo last week..
How frustrating…
Omar Minaya said,
“The bruise was getting bigger in size and we had to place Carlos on the DL. We believe he will be back and ready to play once the fifteen days are up.”
Carlos Beltran will be replaced in center field by Jeremy Reed tonight, who will bat seventh in tonight’s lineup against the Cardinals.
The Mets have recalled top prospect Fernando Martinez from Triple-A Buffalo to replace Beltran on the roster. Martinez had just been sent down only three days ago. It’s not clear if Martinez will play centerfield moving forward.
The Mets made a number of moves and shook up the bullpen as well today.
Shortstop Wilson Valdez and reliever Ken Takahashi were both optioned to Triple-A Buffalo, and relief pitchers Elmer Dessens and Pat Misch were called up.
Pat Misch was a recent waiver wire pick up and had a 6.43 ERA for Triple-A Buffalo.
Elmer Dessens was 3-2 and had a 2.31 ERA for Triple-A Buffalo.

Now that is a blow, I was not want to receive. This guy has been carrying this team day in, day out. How many more injuries must they endure? The baseball Gods are certainly having their way this season. If they are bringing F-Mart back and promoting Misch (a fresh arm), how will the line-up look Beltran-less? This may mean playing Sheff more in left, maybe platoon hime with Reed (he needs some atbats), and Church stays in the line-up regularly. Mets need some longball action and some good starting pitching during this stretch! Go Mets 2009!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This sucks! It’s just one injury after another! When will this nightmare end?
haha maybe Mets listened to MMO. doubtful.
But yeah now it’s all down to Johan (struggling), Frankie (struggling), and David Wright (on fire) to win games for us.
So we’ll be lucky to win every fifth day. Great.
Johan had a great bounceback, Frankie had a great bounceback, so what are talking about struggling and we’ll be lucky to win every 5th day? Nice fan support
Carlos Beltran was prophetic when said at his press conference back in 2005 that these were the New Mets. They sure are! And they look a lot like the Buffalo Bisons!
…
OH COME ON! -__- This is borderline tragic.
