Mets Have An Ace In The Hole!

Pedro Martinez took another huge step toward his return today at Port St. Lucie. For the first time since undergoing rotator cuff surgery, Pedro threw 31 pitches off the mound and had very positive results.

Here is some of what was being reported by AP…

The three-time Cy Young Award winner threw 31 pitches after warming up with seven throws. Before that, he threw on flat ground from 120 feet at the Mets’ spring training complex.

"I was very pleased with the way that it went," Martinez said.

Mets rehabilitation pitching coordinator Randy Niemann gave Martinez a pat on the back.

"For this stage, he looks very good," Niemann said. "I think he felt good, and that’s what we all wanted to see out of him at this point."

So far, so good Mets fans.

Imagine what a boost it will be for the rotation when he returns after the All Star break!

Plus, between now and then, we create a competitive spirit at the back end of the rotation as Maine, Sosa, and Oliver fight to keep their spots. It’s all good!!

Pedro plans to throw again on Friday, and we keep you posted on his progress.
