Buster Olney of ESPN is reporting that the Yankees are in serious pursuit of free agent relief pitcher Andrew Miller. Joel Sherman of the NY Post has confirmed the Yankees interest, but he also says there are still several teams in the mix.

Miller was excellent this season for the Red Sox and Orioles with 103 strikeouts and a 2.02 ERA in 62.0 innings pitched. He also did not allow a run during seven appearances in the playoffs for Baltimore. He is expected to receive a four year contract, and he could be the highest paid reliever without closing experience in MLB history.

If the Yankees sign Miller, it will likely be the end of David Robertson‘s tenure with New York. Robertson is the top closer on the free agent market, and he seeking a contract that exceeds Jonathan Papelbon‘s four-year $50 million deal.

Mike Puma of the New York Post reported that while the Mets are looking to add a lefty reliever at the Winter Meetings, there’s “no shot” they sign Miller.
