New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway said on Friday afternoon that David Wright may appear in more than one game.
Callaway will “look for spots to get him in as a pinch-hitter beginning on Sept. 25, when he’s activated”, says Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
Callaway noted that Wright would need a heads up of at least a few innings to get ready for a pinch hitting appearance.
It was announced on Thursday that The Captain will be activated on September 25 for the Mets final home-stand of the season. The seven time All-Star will start at third base on September 29 against the Marlins.
The Mets All-Time leader in hits also said that there is no improving his physical condition, making this upcoming home-stand his last as a professional baseball player, although he never directly used the word “retire” in any fashion.
Wright has been on the disabled list all season and hasn’t appeared in a major league game since 2016.
