As per a report by Mike Puma of the New York Post, MLB umpire Tom Hallion could face disciplinary action after appearing to stand on home plate after Todd Frazier‘s walk-off home run at Citi Field on Thursday afternoon.
In the first game of a single-admission doubleheader against the Miami Marlins, down 2-1 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, the Mets tied the game on Michael Conforto‘s solo home run to right, then won it on Frazier’s bomb to left.
It was the first time in franchise history that the Mets have won a game on back-to-back home runs.
As Frazier rounded third and headed towards his jubilant teammates, home plate umpire Tom Hallion of “ass in the jackpot” infamy, stood with both feet firmly planted on the plate, forcing Frazier to tap his foot between Hallion’s once he arrived at home.
As per Puma, Joe Torre, MLB’s chief baseball officer, “is expected to discuss the matter with Hallion, according to league sources, because of concerns about the optics the situation presents”.
Frazier has been an outspoken critic of umpiring this season.
