Noah Syndergaard pitched seven shutout innings and the Mets offense crushed four home runs to defeat the Boston Red Sox, 8-0, to extend their winning streak to four games.

The Pitching

Noah Syndergaard (12-3, 3.26 ERA) bounced back from a rocky start against the Philadelphia Phillies to deliver a shutdown performance against baseball’s best team. He struck out six batters but had to work out of trouble as he allowed three hits and three walks.

Syndergaard was effective mixing his overpowering fastball with his brilliant offspeed arsenal. Although he allowed baserunners, he kept the Red Sox offense off-balance and unable to capitalize on their limited opportunities.

Jerry Blevins pitched his fifth consecutive scoreless inning in the eighth before Tyler Bashlor closed the door on a dominant Mets pitching performance.

The Offense

The Mets began their offensive display early and never looked back. Red Sox starter William Cuevas, who pitched in place of the ill Hector Velasquez, allowed two runs in two innings in his first major-league start.

Michael Conforto in the first inning laced a double to right field to extend his on-base streak to seven games. Jay Bruce followed with a double to drive in Conforto for the game’s first run. Bruce later connected for a three-run home run in the third – his eighth of the season and fifth in 18 games since he returned from the disabled list.

Jeff McNeil continued his torrid start to his major-league career with two hits, including his third home run of the season in the fourth. It was McNeil’s first home run since August 6.

Austin Jackson and Amed Rosario hit back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning to give the Mets their ultimate 8-0 lead. Jackson’s towering home run over the Green Monster snapped an 0-13 hitless streak. Rosario delivered his ninth home run of the season.
