Today will mark the 119th renewal of the World Series featuring the American League Champion Texas Rangers and the National League Champion Arizona Diamondbacks. The Fall Classic was first played in 1903, and has taken place every year except 1904, when the National League champion New York Giants and their manager John McGraw, refused to play the AL champs, the Boston Red Sox, and in 1994, when the season ended on August 11 due to the strike.

The National League has won eight out of the last 13 and 10 of the last 16 with wins by the Cardinals in 2006, the Phillies in 2008, the Giants in 2010, the Cardinals in 2011, the Giants in 2012 and 2014, the Cubs in 2016, the Nationals in 2019, the Dodgers in 2020 and the Braves in 2021.

Gallen, certainly one of the top 10 picks for NL Cy Young this year, struggled mightily in the National League Championship Series with nine runs allowed in 14 innings. He took the loss in Game 1 and Game 5 against the Phillies after giving up a combined five home runs. The right-hander faced the Rangers twice in the regular season, allowing three runs in five innings in May and then just one run in six innings with 11 strikeouts in August.

Here is the D-Backs lineup.

Big-game Nate has a 2.42 ERA in four starts this postseason, including giving up only two runs in 6 1/3 innings in a must-win Game 6 against the Astros in the American League Championship Series. The right-hander has a 2.87 ERA and 69 strikeouts over 69 postseason innings. Eovaldi hasn’t faced Arizona since 2016, when he pitched for the New York Yankees.

Here is the Rangers lineup.

The Diamondbacks are into the World Series for the second time in franchise history, after defeating the New York Yankees four games to three in the 2001 World Series.

The Rangers are back into the World Series for the third time in franchise history after previously appearing in 2010 and 2011, losing both times to the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals, respectively.
