With only 39 games left in the season, the New York Mets are heading for the postseason. I’ve been saying this for months now, and I’m not going to stop now.

I have to laugh when I see grown men who are supposed to know about baseball and consider themselves intellectual, whining on about the collapses of 2007 and 2008. Are you freaking kidding me?

Are some people so dense that they fail to see that we are talking about a completely different team now in 2015, than the team we had in 2007 and 2008 that crushed our hearts? I really don’t get this line of thinking unless you’re a 10-year-old… I can accept that kind of thinking from a 10-year-old but not from an adult. Not from someone who expects others to take them seriously.

The Mets just outscored the Rockies 33-19 and in doing so set a franchise record for the most runs scored in the three-game series. They also completed their first ever series sweep in Colorado.

The Mets have been routing bad teams like this one all year long and now the vast majority of the games remaining on the schedule are against teams with losing records.

Everything is coming up Mets these days and apparently they can do no wrong…

They decide to skip Matt Harvey, much to the dismay and scrutiny of many, and their spot starter Logan Verrett tosses eight innings, allows one run, and strikes out eight batters in the worst pitching environment in the major leagues.

This kind of stuff has been happening all season long for the Mets. Like I said back in May, it’s as if the planets are aligning just for them.

Whether it’s batting Curtis Granderson leadoff or playing him against left-handed pitchers… Whether it’s playing Wilmer Flores at shortstop… Whether it’s batting the pitcher eighth… Whether it’s batting Juan Uribe cleanup… We can go on and on, but the point is whatever they do – right or wrong – the Mets keep on winning.

That we’ve come this far without any significant contribution from David Wright is a testament to how good this team really is.

It’s been such a fun and exciting season and I feel bad for fans who have been so wrapped up about worrying for the roof to cave-in, that they haven’t enjoyed it as much as they could have.

To be fair, I think the vast majority of Mets fans, especially all the ones that attend games and are enthusiastically active in our game threads, have been believing in this team all year long. These are the Ya Gotta Believe die-hards.

Most of the negativity and lack of faith in the team permeates from those top bloggers and media who unfortunately still have the fan’s ears.

But who cares what they think… Seriously, forget those guys… Don’t let those clowns fill you with their inane utterances and whiny rhetoric.

Don't be like this me

You ever see those commercials by DirecTV – Don’t be like this me… That’s what I think of whenever I read the whiny crap I see elsewhere. That guy looks familiar…

Let’s talk facts…

The impact of the additions of Uribe, Kelly Johnson, Tyler Clippard, and Yoenis Cespedes, has been remarkable. Not only have they fit right in, but the way in which they’ve made such a transformative difference has been incredible to watch unfold.

The starting pitching, led by Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Jon Niese has not only been stellar, but they have been historically elite and combining to do things we haven’t seen in over half a century.

That bench, which had been one of the worst benches we have ever seen combining to hit just .172, has been completely revamped and now may be one of the best in the league if not all of baseball.

The bullpen is not perfect, on that I think we’d all agree. But where it counts the most, the closer and the set-up man, the Mets are in a very strong position. I do believe the additions of Verrett and Erik Goeddel will help bridge the gap between our starting pitching and our late game relievers.

Bottom line?

Armed with a five game lead and 30 of their remaining 39 against teams under .500, the Mets are firmly on their way to the postseason. And if you can’t see that there’s nothing me or anyone else can say to convince you otherwise. You’re just jaded or simply enjoy being negative for negativity’s sake.
