If you scooted over to Mets.com after tonight’s 10-6 loss to the Cubs at Citi Field, you would have been greeted by this blaring urge to vote David Wright for Man of the Year.

They say that timing is everything, and in this particular case the timing couldn’t have been worse after Wright had a terrible game at the plate, going 0-for-5, striking out twice and leaving seven runners on base. Not exactly a banner day for the Mets veteran third baseman.

That’s Wright seconds after he popped out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth inning with the score knotted at 4-4. The Cubs actually walked Lucas Duda to load the bases and pitch to Wright. The Cubs would score six runs in the top of the 12th inning to seal the deal.

On the bright side, David Wright did don a first responder’s hat when he was in the dugout in between innings. So there’s that.

Go get’em next time, David.
