The Mets have just announced that Noah Syndergaard will not pitch tonight against the Kansas City Royals as planned. Instead, Bartolo Colon will pitch tonight and Syndergaard will start against the Royals in Wednesday’s finale.
Though the Mets have given no reason, it’s obvious they made this move so that Syndergaard will face the Nationals next Monday in DC. Had he pitched tonight he would have missed them.
It’s surprising that this didn’t occur to them until a few hours before game time. I’d imagine that there will be a lot of fans at Citi who will be surprised when they see Bartolo take the mound instead of Syndergaard.
