Buster Olney of ESPN says that based upon what he’s seen, the Mets would be “absolutely dangerous” if they were to somehow get into the playoffs.

He specifically pointed out the Mets top young arms Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard and their high strikeout rates.

“Think about it. Would any team want to face the Mets with all these power arms in the rotation if in fact they got into the playoffs? The answer would be absolutely not.”

The Mets he says, still have plenty of issues on offense and don’t even know what, if anything, they will get out of David Wright.

“They probably should go out and get a bat,” Olney suggests. “Because if the Mets were to go into October and still be alive, boy would they be a dangerous team.”

I think most Mets fans already understood just how good the team’s starting pitching would be this season. What Olney says really shouldn’t be a surprise to any of us.

The question has always been will the Mets hit enough to complement the elite pitching. And more importantly, would they be able to add payroll to bring in a difference maker to beef up that offense if it was still sputtering and inconsistent come trade deadline time? Perhaps that’s a topic for another post.

For now it’s great to see everyone taking notice and drooling over our starting pitching, especially the young arms fronting our rotation. We have painfully endured over five years of sacrifice and losing to get to this point, and now all that pitching we were waiting for is finally here.

Thinking about the Mets in the postseason in October gives me goosebumps… mostly because I know once we get in, another World Series trophy could be well within our grasp. The thought of that is so thrilling and exciting.
