With the 2001 Mets back in the spotlight as we get set to honor the 10th anniversary of the attacks on September 11, I thought I’d hit Wiki to see what most of the players from that team are doing these days.

GM Steve Phillips – Co-host of “Jason and the GM” on Sirius Radio, with occasional guest spots on MLB Network and WFAN.
MGR Bobby Valentine – Co-hosts ESPN Sunday Night Baseball as color commentator, and is the Director of Public Safety in Stamford, CT.
1B Todd Zeile – Began a movie production company in Hollywood, California. He has produced and acted in several independent films which you can read about on his IMDB page.
2B Edgardo Alfonzo – Fonzie was last seen playing baseball with the Newark Bears in New Jersey.

2B Desi Relaford – Started a hip-hop record label called 6 Hole, and instructs kids at his baseball camp during the Summer months. He also loves to fish.
SS Rey Ordonez – Became a U.S. citizen, re-married in 2010, and now resides in Miami Springs in Florida.
3B Robin Ventura – Covers Division 1 Baseball on ESPNU, and College World Series broadcasts on ESPN 2.
UT Joe McEwing – Manages the Charlotte Knights (White Sox AAA), and he was recently named a top managerial prospect by Baseball America.
UT Lenny Harris – Minor League hitting instructor for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
C Mike Piazza – Coaches Team Italy in the WBC and World Cup, and managed the USA team in the 2011 Futures Game this year while wearing Mets hat.
C Todd Pratt – Retired after failing to make the Yankees out of Spring Training in 2007.

OF Tsuyoshi Shinjo – He’s now a celebrated television celebrity in Japan and produces his own line of fashion clothing.
OF Jay Payton – Announced his retirement last February via Facebook and is now taking it easy for a little while.
OF Darryl Hamilton – Works for MLB Commissioner’s Office and reports to Vice President Bob Watson.

OF Benny Agbayani – Went back to college to finish his degree, and now counsels children as an educational assistant at Mililani High School in Hawaii.
OF Timo Perez – Signed a 2011 minor league contract with the Detroit Tigers AAA affiliate, the Toledo Mud Hens.

SP Al Leiter – A well respected studio analyst for the YES Network as well as the MLB Network. Also does color commentary during Yankees broadcasts.
SP Kevin Appier – He operates a 450-acre ranch in Southern California, and was elected to KC Royals HOF this season.
SP Rick Reed – Since 2005, Reed has been the pitching coach at Marshall University for the Thundering Herds.

SP Bruce Chen – Still pitching for the Kansas City Royals where he is 10-7 with a 4.30 ERA this season in 21 starts.
SP Glendon Rusch – Plays basketball in an independent league in California.
SP Steve Trachsel – The “Human Rain Delay” hasn’t played since 2008, but has yet to officially retire.
RP Dennis Cook – Was recently named the head coach for Team Sweden’s baseball team.
RP Turk Wendell – Owns and operates Wykota Ranch, a 200-acre hunting and fishing camp in Larkspur, Colorado.
RP Armando Benitez – After being released by Marlins in 2010, he joined the Newark Bears for his third stint with them.

RP John Franco – The former captain is enjoying retirement and often guest hosts on WFAN and Sirius Radio.
