Marcus Stroman made his third start of the spring this afternoon, hurling three scoreless frames in an eventual 4-1 Mets victory.

Donning his regular light blue glove, Stroman walked Tommy Edman and nicked Matt Carpenter to start his outing. However, Rene Rivera cut down Edman after the RedBird attempted to take second base during Carpenter’s at-bat. Carpenter was later retired on a ground-ball double play hit by Rangel Ravelo.

In his second inning of work, Stro struck out the side with those batters being Tyler O’Neill, Harrison Bader, and Andrew Knizner. He got O’Neil and Bader on striking strikes and caught Knizer looking on a sinker on the lower corner.

The 28-year-old came in for the third inning. He allowed a leadoff double to Austin Dean, but picked him off a batter later. Stroman then retired 2B Edmundo Sosa and DH Ivan Herrera to conclude his outing. While he allowed several baserunners, Stroman was able to face the minimum over his three frames. ESPN didn’t have the velocity numbers available on the telecast for today’s game.

Throughout his start, he utilized a short pause in some of his deliveries in order to befuddle the timing of the batter. This move was frequently featured on the PitchNinja twitter account during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Stroman effectively mixed in his fastball, sinker, and slider en route to his three scoreless innings.

“My body feels great,” Stroman said. “My mind feels clear. I feel strong and everything feels fluid. That’s all I’m looking for. I know if I’m strong, I’m stable, and my mind is clear, I know what I’m capable of.”

Although he’s struggled so far in 2020, he looked like he turned a corner this start. Here’s to hoping he’ll build upon it in his next start.
