Moments after it was revealed that slugger Pete Alonso had suffered no breaks or fractures in his right hand, Starling Marte said he had received positive news on his left quad.

Marte had suffered tightness in his left quad following an awkward slide into second base during Tuesday’s game against the Padres.

It was then reported earlier on Wednesday by Jon Heyman that people within the Mets believed Marte was likely to hit the IL once the results of his MRI came back.

The Mets even sought an insurance policy from the outside after signing veteran outfielder Terrance Gore to a minor-league deal. Gore is known for his speed on the base paths and his ability to steal bases at an elite rate.

However, Marte has said that he now feels better and doesn’t expect to go on the injured list.

So, overall, the Mets have gone from starting the day expecting the worst news on two of their stars to now just having to worry about the next few days or a couple of weeks at the worst if the Mets feel Marte needs to go on the injured list.

Now, that’s what you call a lucky break.
