kelly Johnson

According to MLB Network citing sources, it looks like the New York Mets have swung a deal with the Atlanta Braves for utility infielder and outfielder Kelly Johnson.

The Mets are reportedly sending pitching prospect Akeel Morris to the Braves in exchange for Johnson. Additionally, the Mets are getting cash back in the deal.

Johnson, 34, was batting .215 with a .526 OPS in 132 plate appearances with the Braves. He batted .250 for the Mets last season in 49 games.

Akeel Morris struck out 27 batters over his last 18.2 innings and has held opponents to a .169 average in that span. Walks still an issue though.

It’s expected that Ty Kelly will be optioned back to Triple-A Las Vegas.
