Jon Heyman of Fan Rag Sports was told by one Yankees person, “the Mets just wouldn’t trade him to us” in reference to first baseman Lucas Duda.

The Yankees were reportedly one of the only teams that showed serious interest in the left-handed slugger. First base has been a black hole all season for the Yankees with a .225/.311/.402 slash line.

Duda was ultimately traded to the Tampa Bay Rays for right-handed relief prospect Drew Smith on July 27.

Duda is 6 for 16 with three home runs and five walks since joining the Rays in the American League East.

The Mets and Yankees have only agreed on 16 trades with right-handed pitcher Gonzalez Germen going to the Bronx from Flushing in 2014 being the last one.

Sounds like the Yankees thought they had the best offer and are upset that their division foe got Duda. No reason for the Mets to simply say “no” to Yankees for a rental player.
