According to a report by Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post, the Mets are very interested in Rockies’ shortstop Trevor Story. Jim Bowden of The Athletic mentioned on Wednesday that there was a possibility of the Mets getting a package of right-handed pitcher Jon Gray and Story from the Rockies.

Story, strictly a shortstop in the big leagues, has a 91 OPS+ this year and is a free agent after the season. Story does have two Silver Slugger awards and has been an All-Star twice.

The 28-year-old did played both second base and third base in the minor leagues with Colorado.

Acting GM Zack Scott has said on multiple occasions the Mets were open to trading for a shortstop that can play other positions. Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor is on the injured list with a 4-6 week time frame for his return.
