The New York Mets (53-64) lost by a score of 5-4 to the New York Yankees (63-55) Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.

Pitching

Jacob deGrom looked dominant early on but his troubles with the long ball came back to hurt him. Jake has now given up 23 home runs on this season after Jacoby Ellsbury and Gary Sanchez both took him deep. His final line: 7.1 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K.

Jerry Blevins and Chasen Bradord both finished up the eighth inning. Bradford has been pitching great as his ERA in August is 1.08 thus far.

Offense

The offense was quiet for most of the night but Dominic Smith broke through for an opposite field home run in the seventh. It was his first in the Majors.

Amed Rosario tallied a two-run home run of Aroldis Chapman in the ninth too but the Mets rally fell short. It was nice to see the two new kids homer off quality pitching, but it wasn’t enough to scrape out a win.

Up Next

Robert Gsellman (5-5, 6.16 ERA) is back for the Mets while the Yankees turn to Jamie Garcia (5-8, 4.50 ERA) at 7:10 p.m. in Flushing Wednesday night.
