Morning Briefing: Mets Look to Get Back in the New York Groove

The New York Mets will send Robert Gsellman (5-5, 6.16 ERA) to the mound tonight to face Jaime Garcia (4-8, 4.50 ERA) of the New York Yankees in the third game of a four-game set at Citi Field. The game starts at 7:10 p.m. and will be aired on SNY.

Last night, the Mets were defeated by the Yankees 5-4. Jacob deGrom struggled throughout, but was able to get into the eighth inning despite that. He allowed homers to Jacoby Ellsbury and Gary Sanchez and his final line read as 7.1 innings, five earned runs, four strikeouts, and nine hits allowed.

The Mets could not muster much of anything outside of the youngsters offensively. Dominic Smith hit his first home run of his career, of the two-run variety, in the seventh inning off Sonny Gray. Amed Rosario followed that up in the ninth inning with a two-run homer of his own off Aroldis Chapman for the second of his career. Otherwise, the Mets were only able to get five other hits, two of which were infield singles by Yoenis Cespedes.
