The New York Mets fell to the San Diego Padres 4-3 Thursday night at Citi Field.

Pitching

Rafael Montero made the start in place of Jacob deGrom due to concern over the weather.

Montero was abysmal but was able to limit the damage to three runs. He walked three (including one with the bases loaded in the first inning), allowing five hits on 87 pitches over three innings.

Paul Sewald continued his string of strong performances with three scoreless innings in relief. Josh Edgin tossed a pair of scoreless innings in relief as well, striking out two.

Addison Reed allowed one run on two hits in the ninth inning. That insurance run was huge because it made the score 4-2 before the Mets scored a run in the bottom of the 9th inning.

Offense

Lucas Duda continued a strong week, smacking his first home run since returning from the disabled list. Duda drove in another run with an RBI single in the eighth.

Neil Walker led off the eighth with a double, and scored a run.

Curtis Granderson reached base twice, before being lifted for a pinch hitter.

Jose Reyes put together a handful of good at-bats, reached base twice and drove in a run.

Michael Conforto struck out four times on the night, receiving the dreaded golden sombrero. He was able to get a hit in the bottom of the 9th inning, however.

The Mets were never able to come up with that big hit as they went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position on the night.

Game Notes

Asdrubal Cabrera grounded into a double play in his lone at-bat as a pinch hitter in his first game since returning from the disabled list.

Travis d’Arnaud went 0-for-3 with a walk in his first start since returning from the disabled list.
