The New York Mets (60-79) beat the Philadelphia Phillies (53-86) 6-3 on Wednesday night at Citi Field. The game was called in the bottom of the sixth due to rain.
Pitching:
Robert Gsellman (5-6, 5.60 ERA) took the mound for the Mets in this one. He pitched six quality innings as he limited the Phillies to five hits, one walk, and three runs (two earned).
He had five scoreless inning before faltering in the sixth inning that started with an error by Asdrubal Cabrera at third base on a routine play.
Offense:
The Mets faced Nick Pivetta (5-9, 6.28 ERA) of the Phillies. They attacked him early and often as they scored at least once in four of the five innings that he pitched.
They scored the most off him in the first inning. Asdrubal Cabrera drove in the first run of the game on a RBI single. Travis d’Arnaud immediately followed with a two-run homer to right center field.
Cabrera went 3 for 3 with two runs scored in the game while d’Arnaud had two hits.
Gsellman drove in a run with a RBI single in the second inning. It was his fifth hit and fourth RBI of the season.
Brandon Nimmo tacked on another run in the third inning with a sacrifice fly.
The Mets went down 1-2-3 in the fourth inning, but they went back to work in the fifth inning. Nimmo extended the Mets lead to 6-0 with another sacrifice fly.
Juan Lagares extended his hitting streak to seven games with his 12th double of the season.
The Mets improved to 14-31 this season in the final game of a series.
On Deck:
The Mets welcome the Cincinnati Reds to Flushing on Thursday for a four-game set. Matt Harvey (4-4, 5.97 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Mets and will be opposed by Tyler Mahle (0-1, 2.45 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
