The New York Mets announced that right-handed pitcher Kyle Dowdy has been claimed off waivers by the Texas Rangers.

Dowdy was selected by the Mets in the Rule 5 Draft in December. The Mets decided they were not going to carry him on the 25-man roster and put him through waivers.

The 26-year-old had a 5.56 ERA in 11.1 innings during Spring Training for the Mets, though he allowed only one earned run in his last seven innings.

Right-hander Tim Peterson threw a bullpen at the Mets workout in Syracuse today, presumably giving him the last spot in the Mets’ Opening Day bullpen.

The Mets bullpen looks like this to begin the season (barring a signing): RHP Edwin Diaz, RHP Jeurys Familia, RHP Robert Gsellman, RHP Seth Lugo, LHP Luis Avilan, LHP Justin Wilson, and Peterson.
