matt harvey 2

Though not an orphan, and named Matt as opposed to Pip, some people have some lofty, if not Great Expectations for the Dark Knight this evening in our nation’s capital.

Much speculation surrounds how the resolution of Harvey pitching this game came to pass. Obviously, this evening’s game comes on the heels of the worst start of his young career just five days ago against these same Washington Nationals.

Should he have been given some time to work in the bullpen to adjust his mechanics? Maybe.

Could it be argued that he should have been sent down to work out his troubles in Las Vegas? Again, maybe.

But, this is the choice that was made.  So I must ask, what are you expecting out of Matt Harvey this evening? I do not want to know what you HOPE, because we all hope he throws a no-hitter, rather, what do you expect?

With the chance to vault the Mets back into first place, right his mechanics, quell the naysayers, and perhaps restore his confidence; how will Harvey perform tonight?

I look forward to checking the poll.  As for the comment section, a good discussion could be, What happens if Harvey performs poorly? The Mets have seemingly painted themselves into a corner here.  If he pitches yet another stinker, does he still pitch at home on Memorial Day against the White Sox?

Has he been told this is his last shot or he goes west until he rights himself?

With a roster in flux and constantly short handed, can he be relegated to work it out in side sessions with the big league club and an occasional relief appearance?

Would the Mets DL him citing shoulder weakness or arm fatigue?

He can make all these questions moot with an improved performance.

Seemingly, the domino effect of decisions that has to be made if he needs to be reassigned, Harvey does not even have to dazzle tonight to get another start.  It would be a tremendous load off the mind and shoulders of the front office if Harvey can show up and be competitive tonight.

If it is indeed more of the same, which includes the looks of bewilderment and lack of confidence he has been portraying, it is yet another hole on the roster that needs to be at least temporarily plugged as the 1/3 mark of the season approaches.
