The New York Mets continued a strong start to their season over the last week, sweeping the Miami Marlins before losing a series to the Washington Nationals over the weekend.

Jacob deGrom and Michael Conforto brought the goods over the last week of the season, helping to propel the team to a 6-3 start to the 2019 campaign.

Pitcher of the Week – Jacob deGrom

DeGrom continued his historic run on Monday, April 1st as he pitched seven scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and struck out a career high 14 batters.

Jacob’s stat line to start of the 2019 season is anything short of great:

2-0, 0.00 ERA, 13 IP, 24 K, 2 BB, .174 AVG, 0.77 WHIP.

The April 1st start was DeGrom’s 26th consecutive quality start for the reigning CY Young award winner, tying him with Bob Gibson for the longest streak in major league history. It was also his 31st consecutive start with allowing three runs or less, a new major league record.

On top of the accolades, Jacob also became the first pitcher in Mets history to start a season with back-to-back 10+ strikeout performances.

If all that wasn’t enough reason as to why he was the pitcher of the week, deGrom also clobbered his second career home run over the center field stands in Miami.

Hitter of the Week – Michael Conforto

The Mets outfielder got his season going in a big way over the last week and showed why he could find himself to be one of the prolific offensive players in the game today. His full state line over the past week:

.391 AVG, 23 AB, 9 H, 3 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 BB, 1 IBB, 9 K

Conforto is off to a nice start this season as he looks to build on the big second half he had in 2018. He is without a doubt one of the biggest pieces to this offense and the team’s success could hinge on his bat at times throughout the season.
