According to Adam Rubin via Twitter, Pedro Beato tossed an inning in an extended spring training game Friday for the first time since landing on the disabled list with what the team officially called right elbow tendinitis.
Beato landed on the DL on May 4, three days after pitching three scoreles innings in relief at Philadelphia. The Mets are expected to activate him from the DL on Tuesday when he is elgible to return.
Beato, 24, is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (zero earned runs/17.0 innings) in 11 games this season. The 6-4, 220-pound rookie has allowed nine hits and four unearned runs, walked three and struck out 10.
Our own Clayton Collier wrote that his streak of 17.0 innings without an earned run to start his career is the second-longest in Mets history. Only Jack DiLauro in 1969 compiled a longer run (17.2 innings).
