According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, closer Bobby Parnell had his rehab process shut down for a week due to forearm soreness.

Rubin says Parnell was checked out by Dr. David Altchek and there was no need for another surgery.

Parnell had been struggling during his rehab appearances posting a 10.13 ERA in three relief outings with Single-A St. Lucie.

Mets reliever Bobby Parnell has made some rehab appearances in his road back from Tommy John surgery. It’s been rough so far.

His last appearance came on Tuesday night vs Class A St Lucie. Parnell allowed a run on 2 hits and 2 runs while recording only 2 outs vs Jupiter. He struck out one batter.

It was his 3rd rehab appearance for the Florida State League Club. He has a 10.13 ERA in those 3 appearances.

Parnell was the Mets closer in 2013 but underwent Tommy John surgery on April 8, 2014 and missed the whole season.

He is attempting his comeback to the mound this season but so far it’s been a slower process than expected. Parnell’s fastball is usually in the mid to high 90s but so far it has not come close to that. Parnell’s fastball sat at 89-92 mph and hit 93 mph only once.

Even when Parnell returns, Mets manager Terry Collins will still be committed to current closer Jeurys Familia as the closer.

With Edgin out with TJ, 2014 Mets closer Mejia suspended, Blevins out and Black also on slow recovery, the Mets bullpen has been somewhat depleted and can definitely use a boost when Parnell returns to the mound, assuming he gets to where he needs to be.
