The Mets 11 game winning streak was snapped tonight with a 6-1 loss to the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

Offense:

While the Mets lineup was hot coming into the game, they were stifled tonight by Michael Pineda. Pineda pitched 7.2 dominating innings. He allowed just one run while striking out seven and walking none.

Lucas Duda drove in the Mets’ only run with a sacrifice fly in the 6th inning.

Nieuwenhuis, Granderson and Campbell each had a double.

Pitching:

Jacob deGrom uncharacteristically struggled tonight, and he was hit hard early.  During his five innings pitched, deGrom surrendered six runs and eight hits.

Most of the damage came from the powerful bat of first baseman Mark Teixeira. Teixeria launched two home runs off of deGrom and he drove in four of the Yankees six runs.

Tonight’s performance raised deGrom’s ERA to 2.93.

Sean Gilmartin pitched a a scoreless inning of relief and struck out one batter.

In his MLB debut, Hansel Robles was impressive. Robles worked out of a difficult bases loaded jam striking out Brian McCann and Carlos Beltran to end the 7th inning.

Notes:

Jon Niese was ejected in the 5th inning by umpire Doug Eddings even though he was not in the game. Eddings was infuriated by something Niese said from the dugout during the middle of Juan Lagares‘ at bat.

“I thought that it was a ball, he called it a strike, and I told him, ‘Make an adjustment,’” Niese said after the loss.

“He said he didn’t want to hear another word, and I said, ‘Well, then make an adjustment.’ And he tossed me.” Niese pleaded the fifth when asked if he used any profanity.

On Deck:

The Mets still own the best record in the majors at 13-4.  Matt Harvey will face CC Sabathia tomorrow at 3:30 PM as the Mets look to get back on track. The game will be televised on SNY.
