Another trade deadline is approaching and with that came further rumors of Noah Syndergaard getting dealt.

I, for one, never thought that Syndergaard should be traded, especially in the midst of this year. What was the point in bringing in Marcus Stroman and trading Jason Vargas, just to also trade Syndergaard? He’s still young. We know what he’s capable of, especially since he reminded us in Tuesday night’s game against the White Sox.

Syndergaard also believed he should not be dealt and had been quite vocal about it, especially on social media. He changed his Twitter bio to read “Pitcher of the New York Mets, for now. Mrs. Met would hate to see me traded.” He also tweeted the following on Sunday night, when rumors about his trade were spiraling around:

This isn’t the first time Syndergaard had posted things like this to his social media. Back in December, when rumors again were circling about him being traded by the Mets, he changed his Twitter bio to read “SNY is trying to trade me.”

After Tuesday night’s game, where he didn’t give up a hit until the fifth and his final line was 7 1/3 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, and 11 K, Syndergaard spoke to the media. He stated that all of the trade rumors about him were “getting kind of old.” He went on to say that he does not think that anything will actually happen and that he will be staying put in Queens.

And he was right. As I wrote this, the news broke that he was pulled off of the market Tuesday night. Phew! A smart decision by the Mets. Now is not the time to move him. Now is the time, however, for this rhetoric to stop.

I do agree with Syndergaard’s comments. I was not even personally involved in trade talks and I was over all of the Syndergaard trade rumors going around. They did start to grow old, especially when the majority of fans believed it was the wrong decision. We heard the rumors in the offseason, especially during Winter Meetings, and we had heard them again in the weeks leading up to the trade deadline, ramping up in the days prior.

At least we have confirmation that Syndergaard is safe for now. Will these rumors start to circulate again in the offseason? I wouldn’t be surprised. It has almost become a trend.

I wonder what Syndergaard’s bio will change to this winter…
