1967: The Mets named Johnny Murphy as their general manager. He replaced Bing Devine who was the team’s general manager during the 1967 season.
2001: The Mets traded RHP Kevin Appier and cash to the Anaheim Angels in exchange for 1B Mo Vaughn. Appier went 21-19 with a 4.48 ERA and 182 strikeouts in 281 innings during parts of two seasons with the Angels. Vaughn, who earned $46.5 million with the Mets, hit .249/.346/.438 with 29 home runs and 87 RBIs in 566 at-bats and 168 games during the three seasons the Mets had him under contract.
