Good morning, Mets fans!

Max Scherzer took the mound for the Mets after the team fell late to the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night. Scherzer had settled in over the past few starts and shown the vintage version of himself the Mets have been looking for all season. He seemed near perfect through three innings of work while only allowing two hits and striking out seven.

Brett Baty got the Mets on the board in the top of the first inning against Charlie Morton as he lined an RBI single that drove in Jeff McNeil to put the Mets up, 1-0. In the following inning, Francisco Álvarez belted a 421-foot solo home run to put the Mets up 2-0.

During that first inning, Pete Alonso was hit by a pitch in the wrist. He was pulled from the game and replaced by Tommy Pham. Alonso’s Xv-ray would come back negative and is considered day-to-day.

Scherzer found trouble in the bottom of the fourth when he started giving up more hits. Orlando Arcia reached on an infield single that scored Austin Riley to cut the lead to 2-1. Scherzer stranded the bases loaded to end the inning.

Pham then clocked a two-run homer to put the Mets up, 4-1. Just like last night, the Mets had a three-run lead, but the Braves crawled right back and take it from them.

Sean Murphy smacked a two-run homer to match Pham’s, and the Braves trailed 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth. In the following inning for Atlanta, Michael Harris II and Ronald Acuna Jr. would tie and take the lead, 5-4, respectively, in consecutive at-bats.

Pham tied it back up in the following inning with a sacrifice fly to put the game at 5-5. Harris II put the dagger in the Mets with a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth, and the Mets lost 7-5.

They’ve now lost five in a row and are 30-32. It’s their first five-game losing streak since 2021.
