Morning Briefing: Lindor Lone Mets All-Star Game Finalist

Good morning, Mets fans!

Francisco Lindor is the only Mets player that made it to Phase 2 of the 2023 All-Star voting. He will go up against Atlanta Braves Orlando Arcia to see who will start for the National League at shortstop.

Phase 2 of the voting begins at noon ET on Monday and continues until noon ET on Thursday. These vote totals from Phase 1 don’t carry over.

The Mets had a much needed off day on Thursday, and they will begin their first series in Philadelphia on Friday night. Kodai Senga will take the mound for the New York Mets as he will rival former Mets pitcher Taijuan Walker.

With the off day in mind, let’s see how the youngsters faired down in the minor leagues on Thursday:

• Triple-A Syracuse: Mike Vasil: 3 2/3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K

• Double-A Binghamton: Dominic Hamel: 6 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K

• High-A Brooklyn: Tyler Stuart: 7 2/3 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 11 K

• Low-A St. Lucie: Douglas Orellana: 6 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 7 K

The Mets intend to call up right-handed reliever Vinny Nittoli before Friday’s game against the Phillies, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. Nittoli, whom the Mets acquired in a trade with the Cubs earlier this month, has thrown three straight scoreless outings at Syracuse. He’s already on the team’s 40-man.

On June 26 at Glen Head Country Club, Darryl Strawberry will host his inaugural Golf Classic. Funds raised will go to Strawberry Ministries which is dedicated to keeping opioids from children. Other former Mets and Yankees greats like Mookie Wilson, Howard Johnson, Ray Knight, John Franco, Gary Sheffield, Bernie Williams will be there among others.
