It was reported on Tuesday night that within the league circles, some believe the Mets “have a reasonable chance” to lure Brewers free agent manager Craig Counsell to Queens. The report originated from Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Counsell has been successful in his time in Milwaukee, surpassing 90 wins in three of his nine seasons and going to the playoffs in five of the last six seasons.

The Mets are unable to make contact with Counsell until November, and he could decide to stay in Milwaukee, among other options. However, the veteran manager already has links to the Mets front office. David Stearns, who was introduced as the team’s president of baseball operations on Oct. 2, was hired from Milwaukee.
