Morning Briefing: Eight Is Great!

Good Morning, Mets fans! Hope you have your coffee with you because the New York Mets have another 10:10 PM start tonight. They will be taking on the San Diego Padres tonight with Steven Matz toeing the rubber. Jhoulys Chacin will get the ball for the Padres.

Jacob deGrom went eight innings and gave up two runs en route to his eighth straight victory and a 5-3 Mets win on Monday. Wilmer Flores homered in the second and the Mets never looked back. Jay Bruce had a pair of RBI singles and Yoenis Cespedes chipped in a RBI triple, his first of the year.

Jose Reyes stole his 500th career base in the eighth inning and later scored from Travis d’Arnaud‘s RBI single. Addison Reed had a shaky ninth, but was able to seal the win for the Mets by the skin of his teeth.

Neil Walker went 1-for-4 with a RBI double in his third straight rehab game, while playing all nine innings in the field. The plan is for him to DH tonight, then play nine in the field on Wednesday. The Mets will presumably have him back with the team on Thursday. Amed Rosario also returned in this game and went 1-for-4 with a two-run double.

Brandon Nimmo also began his rehab assignment, playing seven innings in center field for Las Vegas. He went 0-for-4 in the game.

Zack Wheeler was put on the disabled list with a stress reaction in his throwing arm. The Mets surprisingly called up Chris Flexen for the start. Flexen is one of the better pitching prospects in the organization who has been dominating at Double-A this year.

Mets Minors began their countdown of the top 40 prospects in the organization.
