The first domino of trade season has fallen, as David Peterson will be switching dugouts tomorrow. The struggling lefty will be joining the Chicago Cubs as the Mets will get corner infield prospect Cole Mathis, the Cubs’ No. 13 prospect according to MLB.com, back in the deal. Peterson’s tenure as a Met has been up and down, but after a breakout 2024 season, the southpaw has had two disappointing seasons in Queens, leading to his final departure.

The Mets designated infielder Zack Short for assignment to make room for the return of Francisco Lindor from the 10-day IL after missing two months due to a strained left calf muscle.

Ronny Mauricio was also reinstated from the 10-day IL as he returned from his rehab assignment. Mauricio was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

Carlos Mendoza told reporters that Kodai Senga will be moved to the bullpen as he continues his massive struggles at the big league level.
