Good morning, Mets fans!

And just like that, the first of two Subway Series meetings this year is over in a day-night doubleheader. In game one, Zack Wheeler faced off against Masahiro Tanaka and Jason Vargas opposed fellow southpaw pitcher James Paxton.

Although the Mets tacked on runs early, scoring four runs in the third inning, the Yankees struck back tagging Wheeler for five earned runs in only four and two-thirds innings. The game started off as an offensive battle between cross-town rivals and quickly turned into a lopsided 12-5 win for the Bronx Bombers.

In the second game of the day, the Mets scored three in the first inning on a three-run 424 ft bomb off the bat of Pete Alonso for his 22nd home run of the year. With a few more singles along with homers from J.D. Davis and Carlos Gomez, the Mets came out on top in the second game of their doubleheader with a final score of 10-4.

Jason Vargas will get the win after throwing six innings of three-run baseball. He now holds the second-best ERA in the Mets rotation at 3.68. Vargas also holds the fourth lowest ERA in the National League since April 19th, he trails Hyun-Jin Ryu, Mike Soroka, and Zack Greinke.

The Mets have an off-day today before they start a four-game series at home against the Cardinals.
