Francisco Lindor will be a Met for ten years. Saying that Mets fans are excited is an understatement, but we wanted to bask in this excitement with you.

“AHHHHHHHHHHHH”

He came here to build a championship team. Steve Cohen just landed a BIG piece. In Lindor, the Mets will have someone to anchor the infield for a decade. A shortstop with power is almost an oxymoron, but the Mets have him and also have one of the best players in the game. Welcome to NY (long-term), Mr. Lindor.

On March 30, in the midst of the bleakness that surrounded a deal getting done, the stubborn optimism in my Mets’ soul made me tweet out “I really have no doubt in my mind the Mets will extend Lindor. They have 48 hours and a lot can happen.”

As the day went on Wednesday, I started to lose hope and felt a bit sour thinking of the team going into Opening Day without a deal in place and how much it would suck to watch the team all season with this in the back of our minds.

However, Steve Cohen and the Lindor camp, who likely were deliberating all day Wednesday, got it done just in the nick of time.

This is no longer the Wilpon owned Mets, folks. This is a giant leap into a new era of New York Mets baseball.

Steve Cohen and the Mets made a franchise changing decision in agreeing to an extension with Fransisco Lindor. This signing sends a giant and immediate signal to the rest of the sport that this organization means business, and will finally be looked at by future free agents other across baseball as a premiere destination. In the short term, this starts the 2021 season off on a more than positive note and we could see the team feed off that, and in the long term the Mets locked up a 15 player in the sport for the next decade…pretty good start to the Cohen era before a real pitch has even been thrown!

Just heard the Mets are giving out 341 million dollar extensions, is this where I sign up?

Steve Cohen – He came. He saw. He conquered.

Opening day just got a lot more exciting for Mets fans. Not only is their a buzz about having fans in the stands for the first time in over a year, but when those fans hear Francisco Lindor’s name called on Thursday during opening day lineups, there will be an overwhelming sense of pride & excitement surrounding knowing the Mets have landed their guy that will lead their team for the next decade. Steve Cohen came into the organizing with a goal to build a championship team and organization. By signing Lindor to a 10-year, $340 million deal, he continued to put reiterate that mission.

This is an extension that Mets fans have been waiting on and Wednesday, the price was right for Francisco Lindor and the Mets. The players have taken to Twitter to express their excitement now that the deal is official, and you can imagine that they’re going to be that much more fired up when they take the field Thursday afternoon for opening day 2021. LGM!

The Mets finally have ownership that is willing to spend, and that’s exactly what Steve Cohen did when he doled out the Francisco Lindor extension.

In a short period, Lindor has already shown he’s a tremendous teammate and leader, and that he is exactly the type of superstar you lock up long-term.

Lindor solidifies the shortstop position for a long time with his glove and bat.

This is a deal that shows the penny-pinching days of the Wilpon-era are long gone.

Both sides had too much at risk for this not to happen. Even as the 11th hour approached – as contract negotiations of this nature are known to do – and many Mets fans were wrought with distress, I truly felt confident this would come to a resolution.

Cohen and the Mets made a more-than-reasonable offer. Francisco Lindor’s camp countered in an attempt to maximize his worth. The two sides found middle ground and all of Metsland is relieved and elated.

On the eve of the most highly-anticipated years in recent memory, and the start of a new era in franchise history, Lindor has his mega-deal. The Mets have their everyday mega-star for an additional decade. Cohen has officially stamped this a highly successful first offseason.

Now it’s time to win.

Lindor just became one of the best Mets in franchise history. It’s entirely possible that he (and deGrom?) join Seaver and Piazza in the Hall of Fame with a Mets cap, and that would never have been possible with the last guys in charge. Do you really thing the Wilpons would EVER give ANYONE a $341 million contract? No way!

I think on an intellectual level, we knew the Lindor deal would get done. The Mets had too much to lose, having parted with quality players to bring him to Queens. Steve Cohen wanted to put his mark on the team in his first off season, and Lindor knows the Mets are serious contenders, and that he would be walking away from a huge pile of guaranteed cash.

But we all suffer from Post-Wilpon Stress Disorder (PWSD), and there was that lingering feeling that another star player would be left to walk away. Well, it’s a new day, a new season, and if we ever doubted it, a new era in Flushing. The Mets can have nice things. They have Lindor for the long term, we have a new baseball season, and it couldn’t be more exciting.

This deal played out too publicly, meaning that it was evident both sides wanted something to happen and were willing to do what it takes to get there. We’ve been saying since Steve Cohen became owner that it’s a new era for Mets fans, and this just further proves that. A massive extension, the night before Opening Day? What a gift! What’s left to say except LET’S F**** GO METS!
