Kevin T. Asks:

What are your thoughts on the job Luis Rojas is doing so far this season?

Marshall Replies:

Luis Rojas has done what any senior manager in ‘business’ does in his first few weeks of his new job—he’s made mistakes. He should’ve pinch hit for Wilson Ramos on a couple of occasions and his handling of the pitching staff at times has been questionable.

The first-year skipper seems to have the team focused and together as many of his players played for him in the minors and know his tendencies well.

Rojas appears determined and driven to do well in his first stint as manager, but probably needs to relax a little and let the game unfold in front of him, I believe he has the gifts to be a very good major league manager, but in this truncated mini-season his management style might be judged unfairly.

Given a full spring training and a 162-game schedule, it will be interesting to see how Rojas works out… I think he’ll be fine.

Another fly in the ointment for Rojas potentially is the new ownership situation. Heaven only knows how the hierarchy of the Mets will change when new owners take over. If he is asked to remain, I think he will succeed.
