Update: The Mets have scratched David Peterson from tonight’s start due to left shoulder fatigue. He’s going to the injured list. Corey Oswalt will make the start.

The 2020 Mets are the masters of flipping the switch. After a weekend of being just terrible, the Mets came out in a big way last night in a game that lasted nearly 4 hours. Robert Gsellman labored through 1.2 innings to start, and then the bullpen took over. Shreve had a fantastic 2.1 innings with 5 strikeouts. And there was power! Robinson Cano had two homers! Pete Alonso had two homers!

Key for the Mets – can they keep it going?

Mets Lineup

  1. Brandon Nimmo – CF
  2. Jeff McNeil – 2B
  3. J.D. Davis – 3B
  4. Michael Conforto – RF
  5. Robinson Cano – DH
  6. Pete Alonso – 1B
  7. Dominic Smith – LF
  8. Amed Rosario – SS
  9. Tomas Nido – C

Marlins Lineup

  1. Jonathan Villar – SS
  2. Jesus Aguilar – 1B
  3. Francisco Cervelli – C
  4. Cory Dickerson – DH
  5. Monte Harrison – CF
  6. Brian Anderson – 3B
  7. Logan Forsythe- 2B
  8. Lewis Brinson- RF
  9. Magneuris Sierra – CF

David Peterson will try to make that reality tonight. In his first four starts and 21.2 innings he has a 2.91 ERA, 4.01 FIP, 1.154 WHIP and a 149 ERA+. He’s made one start against the Marlins back on August 8th where he allowed 2 runs over 5.0 innings from 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 3. Normally I would list out the opposing batting record against Peterson, but its only one start, so lets look at who got Peterson and who Peterson got. In that game Logan Forsythe got the better of Peterson with a homer and a walk. Peterson handled Villar, Brinson, Berti and Cervelli who were a combined went 0-10 against David.

Humberto Mejia will make the start against the Mets today, his only major league start came against the Mets on 8/7. Humberto skipped multiple levels of the minors to face the Mets 11 days ago, allowing 1 run from a homer over 2.1 innings in a game the Mets eventually lost. Dominic Smith hit the homer because he’s amazing. Anyway, for some reason the Marlins sent Mejia down after that start – and he’s back. To face the Mets again.

Let’s Go Mets!
