Tyler Pill was the medicine the Mets needed in his first start, so lets hope his second dose is just as good.
To quote the SNY Booth, Tyler Pill in his first major league start looked like Dillon Gee at his best. Not overpowering, but worked off-speed and hit his locations to keep hitters off balance throughout the game.
On the season, he is 0-1 over two starts and one relief appearance allowing two runs, seven hits and four walks.
He doesn’t have a win to show for his start thanks to a dropped pop up in the infield. His loss actually came from the Pirates in 2/3 innings where he allowed a hit, a walk and a run in the extra inning game last weekend.
Pirates have limited exposure to Pill:
- Cervelli 0-0, BB
- Freese 1-1
- McCutchen 0-0, HBP
- Ngoepe 0-1
- Polanco 0-1
The Mets bats will draw Trevor Williams, who is 2-3 in 11 games and five starts over 36 1/3 innings with a 5.20 ERA, 4.61 FIP, 1.321 WHIP.
After back to back starts being just slightly below average (5 2/3 IP with three ER, five IP with three ER), Williams is coming off of his best start of the season where he held the Diamondbacks to four hits and one run over six innings.
This will be Trevor Williams first start against the Mets in his career and he has never faced the Mets when they were members of other teams.
Notes
The Mets snapped their three-game losing streak with Saturday night‘s win. New York is now 3-3 on its seven-game homestand and are 14-18 at home this season.
The Mets hit three home runs Saturday and now have hit 20 home runs in their last 13 games. In five games vs. the Pirates this season, the Mets have hit 12 home runs.
Neil Walker hit his seventh home run of the season with his two-run shot in the first inning off Tyler Glasnow on Saturday. Since May 1, Walker is batting .322 (37-for-115) with nine doubles, two triples, five home runs and 21 RBI in 29 games.
Walker has also hit safely in each of his nine career games vs. his former team since joining the Mets in 2016. The second baseman is batting .361 (13-for-36) with one double, one triple, four home runs and 10 RBI in those nine games.
Jay Bruce hit his 13th home run of the season with his solo shot in the third inning Saturday that gave the Mets the lead. Eight of Bruce’s 13 home runs this year have given the Mets the lead. He now has 23 home runs and 74 RBI vs. Pittsburgh in his career. Both totals are his second highest vs. any opponent behind his 35 homers and 87 RBI vs. Milwaukee.
Wilmer Flores homered in the fourth inning for his fifth home run of the season (third off right-handed pitching). Since May 1, Flores is batting .368 (28-for-76) with five doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI and 10 runs scored (26 games).
Lucas Duda went 2-for-4 Saturday. Over his last 12 games, Duda is batting .383 (18-for-47) with five doubles, six home runs, 14 RBI and nine runs scored. Duda has reached base safely in 20 of his last 21 games.
Addison Reed pitched two innings and converted on his eighth save of the season. It’s the first save of four or more outs in Reed’s career. Reed had recorded a four-out save on three different occasions prior to Saturday with the last time being June 15, 2015 at the Angels while pitching for Arizona.
Let’s Go Mets!
