The Mets will try to win their first series of the year against the division rival Nationals this evening with Zack Wheeler (11-10, 3.49 ERA) taking on Gio Gonzalez (9-10, 3.74 ERA).
In his last start, Wheeler earned the win, throwing 6 scoreless innings against the Braves. He struck out 7 in that game, walking 2 and not giving up a run.
This is New York’s second doubleheader this season. They split a pair against the Diamondbacks on May 25th at Citi Field. It is New York’s first day-night doubleheader since July 26th, 2013 at Washington, when the Mets won the first game, 11-0 and lost the second, 2-1.
