USATSI bartolo colonThe Mets travel to Philadelphia to begin a three game set with their division rivals tonight at 7:05 PM. Bartolo Colo (10-9, 4.12), looking for his 200th career win, faces A.J. Burnett (6-11, 4.16).

In his last start, Colon allowed two home runs, snapping a season-high string of four homerless games. Colon has not allowed a home run in 12 out of 22 starts this season and has surrendered 16 home runs this season, more than in 2013 when he gave up 14.

David Wright will look to snap out of his recent slump in Philly. He has hit 19 home runs and driven in 64 runs in 356 at-bats in Citizens Bank Park, both career highs in for the Mets third baseman in a visiting ballpark. Wright’s 19 home runs are the most by a visiting player in Citizens Bank Park history.

Bartolo Colon has 199 career victories, ranking third among active pitchers (CC Sabathia has 208 wins and Tim Hudson has 213). With his next win, Colon would become the third Dominican-born pitcher to reach the 200 win plateau, joining Juan Marichal (243) and Pedro Martinez (219).

The Mets suffered their 10th walk-off loss of the year yesterday in Washington when Bryce Harper hit a 13th-inning home run. The 10 walk-off losses are the most in the majors. New York also lost for the 20th time in its opponents’ final at-bat, which also is the most in the majors this season.

After dropping a series 2 games to 3 in Washington, ending the rubber game with an extra inning loss, the Mets head to Philly to hopefully gain some momentum back. Tonight Bartolo Colon takes the mound against AJ Burnett.

Colon is 10-9 on the season in 22 games, 146.1 innings and a 4.12 ERA. After a stretch of good starts, Colon had a hiccup in his last start allowing 8 hits and 6 ER over 4.2 innings in a game the Mets eventually lost 9-0. One characteristic Colon has had this season is when he is off, he is really off. In two starts against the Phillies this year he is 2-0 with a 1.84 ERA over 14.2 innings of work. The Phillies have the following numbers against Colon:

  • Rollins 5-18, 2B, HR
  • Brignac 5-15
  • Byrd 3-8
  • Sizemore 1-8
  • Howard 2-8, 2 HR
  • Ruiz 4-9, 2B
  • Revere 3-8

A.J. Burnett is 6-11 over 24 starts and 151.1 innings of work with an ERA of 4.16. His last start against the Mets was horrendous where he allowed 7 ER over 5.0 innings and 8 hits. He followed that up against the Nationals where he pitched 1.2 innings, 5 runs, 1 earned. The Mets have the following numbers against Burnett:

  • Wright 3-27, 2B
  • Granderson 3-28, 2 2B, HR
  • Murphy 4-15, 2 2B
  • Rejada 1-9
  • Lagares 3-7, 2B
  • d’Arnaud 3-6, 2B, hR
  • Duda 2-4, 2B
