bartolo colon

Congratulations to Bartolo Colon who won the 200th game of his career tonight as the Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 5-4 at Citizens Bank Park.

Colon, 41,  was solid and allowed just one run over eight innings of work. He scattered six hits, walked nobody and struck out six batters. His only blemish a solo homer to Marlon Byrd.

After Colon departed with a 5-1 lead, Dana Eveland came in for the ninth and allowed the first two batters to reach with nobody out. Jenrry Mejia came in for the save and barely got out by the skin of his teeth as the Phillies scored three runs before Mejia struck out Reid Brignac with the tying run at third. A great diving catch by Curtis Granderson in right field kept the Mets in the win column.

Colon joins Juan Marichal (243 wins) and Pedro Martinez (219) as the only Dominican-born pitchers to reach the 200-win plateau. He also became the third pitcher to achieve No. 200 as a Met, joining Orel Hershiser in 1999 and Pedro Martinez in 2006.

Offensively, the Mets  smacked a dozen hits including a home run from Travis d’Arnaud. Curtis Granderson, David Wright, Wilmer Flores and the red-hot Daniel Murphy each had two hits.

Up Next: The Mets will have Dillon Gee (4-4, 3.73) oppose Cole Hamels (6-6, 2.42) for the Phillies on Saturday at. 7:05 PM. Be there or be square…

Lets Go Mets!
