Veteran infielder Troy Tulowitzki announced his retirement from baseball today in a statement through the New York Yankees according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

“I wanted to take this opportunity to announce my retirement as a Major League Baseball player.”

“For as long as I can remember, my dream was to compete at the highest level as a Major League Baseball Player … to wear a big league uniform and play hard for my teammates and the fans. I will forever be grateful for every day that I’ve had to live out my dream. It has been an absolute honor.”

Tulo was signed to a minor league deal by the Yankees in the offseason to provide them an option at shortstop as Didi Gregorius recovered from Tommy John surgery.

The five-time All-Star would end up with just 13 plate appearances with the Yankees.

A first round pick of the Colorado Rockies in 2005 ends his career hitting .290/.361/.495 with 225 home runs, 780 RBI, and posting 44.2 bWAR in 1291 big league games.
